NEXUS PROTOCOL: GRID SURVEILLANCE
OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES
Version 1.4
This page is version 1.4 of the Official Rules, published for reference. It does not run a Hunt by itself. The operator details below apply to every Hunt. Each Hunt's own rules page sets out the rest of its Hunt-Specific Details, including its dates, prize and Answer Format, and those details complete these rules for that Hunt. The Official Rules: Answers to Closed Hunts apply clauses of this version to answers submitted after a Hunt has closed.

1. About This Promotion
1.1 The Hunt identified in the Hunt-Specific Details for this Hunt (the "Promotion") is operated by The Void Between ("the Operator"), a registered Australian business. The Operator's location and contact email are set out in the Hunt-Specific Details for this Hunt.
1.2 This Promotion is a marketing activity of The Void Between in connection with the Nexus Protocol: Grid Surveillance series.
1.3 These Official Rules govern all aspects of the Promotion. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these rules in their entirety.
1.4 The Promotion is governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. Entrants submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland, Australia.
1.5 The Operator may be contacted, at the address specified as the Contact Email in the Hunt-Specific Details for this Hunt, for any queries relating to these rules or the Promotion.
1.6 This Promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Meta (including Facebook and Instagram), YouTube, TikTok, or any other social media platform on which it appears. Any questions or complaints relating to this Promotion should be directed to the Operator, not to any platform.
1.7 By entering, each entrant releases Meta (including Facebook and Instagram), YouTube, TikTok, and any other platform on which the Promotion appears, and their related companies, from all liability in connection with the Promotion.
2. Eligibility
2.1 The Promotion is open to participants worldwide, subject to the exclusions in clause 2.2.
2.2 The following persons are not eligible to enter:
- residents of Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, or any country or territory subject to comprehensive sanctions that would prohibit participation in this Promotion;
- residents of any country or territory in which PayPal payment services are not available;
- persons under 18 years of age at the time of entry;
- the Operator, its employees, contractors, immediate family members, and any person directly involved in the creation or administration of this Promotion.
2.3 Entrants are responsible for determining whether their participation is lawful in their jurisdiction. The Operator accepts no liability for any entrant who participates in breach of applicable local laws.
2.4 By entering, the entrant warrants that they meet all eligibility requirements set out in this Part.
3. Promotion Period
3.1 The Promotion opens at the date and time specified as the Hunt Start in the Hunt-Specific Details for this Hunt (the "Opening Time").
3.2 The Promotion closes at the date and time specified as the Hunt End in the Hunt-Specific Details for this Hunt (the "Closing Time"). The Promotion period is fixed at 7 days. There are no extensions under any circumstances.
3.3 Entries received before the Opening Time or after the Closing Time will not be accepted as entries in the Promotion. Clause 5.9 applies to answers submitted after the Closing Time.
3.4 All times are expressed in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). Entrants in other time zones are responsible for converting times accordingly.
3.5 The Promotion period is fixed at 7 days for all Hunts under this Promotion. Any change to the Promotion period requires a new MAJOR version of these Rules and does not apply retroactively to Hunts already conducted under a prior version.
3.6 The Promotion period is divided into Hunt Days. Hunt Day 1 begins at the Opening Time. Each Hunt Day lasts 24 hours, and the next Hunt Day begins when it ends, except that Hunt Day 7 ends at the Closing Time. "Day 7" means Hunt Day 7. The Hunt Day in which an entry is made is decided by its receipt time (clause 5.2).
4. How to Enter
4.1 To enter the Promotion, participants must:
- solve the puzzle, cipher, or challenge presented by the Operator as part of this Hunt; and
- submit their entry using the Submission Page set out in the Hunt-Specific Details for this Hunt, during the Promotion period.
Comments are not entries. A comment, post, or message on any social media platform, and any email or direct message, is not an entry. Posting an answer publicly does not enter it, and lets other people submit it before you.
4.2 The eligible entrant who makes the first correct entry, as determined under clause 5.2, is the winner, subject to verification under Part 5.
4.3
- An entry is one Name and one Description, submitted together using the Submission Page during the Promotion period.
- Each person may make one entry in this Hunt. It cannot be changed or replaced.
- An entry that goes beyond the limit in this clause is not accepted, and if it is recorded it is disregarded.
- A person must use one email address for their entry. If the Operator has evidence that a person has made more than one entry in this Hunt, using more than one email address or other identity or in any other way, that person is disqualified and all of their entries are disregarded.
- Entrants are not told whether their entry is correct (clause 5.1).
4.4
- Each entrant must make their own entry personally, for themselves. An entry may not be made on behalf of another person.
- How an entrant works out the answer is a matter for the entrant.
- An entry is not eligible if its answer was obtained, other than from the published Hunt content, from the Operator's systems or records without authorisation, or from any person to whom the Operator disclosed it in confidence. The Operator may disqualify an entrant who makes such an entry.
- Entries must be made by a person using the Submission Page, not by automated software, bots, or scripts.
4.5 Each entry receives an on-screen receipt showing a receipt ID and the time the entry was received. The receipt confirms that the entry was received, not whether it is correct. An entry for which no receipt was shown has not been received. If the Submission Page is unavailable at any time during the Promotion period, the Promotion period is not extended, and entries are still ordered by receipt time under clause 5.2. The Operator is not responsible for entries that are lost, delayed, corrupted, or not received due to technical issues with the Submission Page, an entrant's device, or internet connectivity.
4.6 An entry has two parts, a Name and a Description, as set out in the Answer Format in the Hunt-Specific Details for this Hunt. An entry is correct only if it meets this clause.
- Name. The Name must be a proper name that is, or forms part of, a name by which the answer is known in standard reference sources, such as the name used by the institution that holds or manages it, or the title of its entry in a major encyclopedia. The Name and Description together must identify the answer and nothing else.
- Description. The Description must correctly state what kind of thing the answer is, and one further fact about it of a kind listed in the Answer Format. Anything else in the Description does not need to be correct, and an error in it is disregarded, unless it offers a different answer or more than one answer.
- An entry that offers more than one answer, or offers alternatives, is not correct.
- Differences in capitalisation, punctuation, spacing, and the use or omission of the word "the" are disregarded. A spelling error is disregarded only if (i) the intended word is clear, (ii) the misspelt word does not equally or more closely match any other person, place, object or thing, and (iii) no word contains more than two letters added, left out, changed or swapped.
- Before the Hunt Start, the Operator records the Names, and the statements of kind and further fact, that it has identified as meeting this clause. That record is not changed during the Hunt. An entry that is not in the record is assessed under this clause in the same way.
4.7 Entries must comply with the YouTube Community Guidelines, published at https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9288567. An entry that does not comply with them is disqualified.
5. Winner Determination and Notification
5.1 All entries are logged privately by the Operator as they are received. No confirmation of a correct or incorrect answer will be provided to any entrant at any time during the Promotion period. Entrants will not be informed whether their answer is right or wrong before the winner is announced.
5.2
- The winner is the eligible entrant whose correct entry has the earliest receipt time during the Promotion period. The receipt time of an entry is the time recorded by the Submission Page when the entry is received, to the millisecond. In the event of a dispute about receipt times, the Operator's records are determinative.
- Correct entries from different eligible entrants that have the same receipt time are tied. No other order, including the order in which the Operator's systems stored the entries, is used to separate them.
- If entries are tied, the Operator will send each tied entrant the same question about the published content of this Hunt, prepared before the Hunt Start, by email at the same time. Each tied entrant has 24 hours from that time to reply. A tied entrant who replies correctly within that time stays tied; a tied entrant who replies incorrectly, or does not reply in time, is no longer tied. If one entrant remains, that entrant is the winner.
- If more than one entrant remains tied after paragraph (c), the Prize is divided equally among them. If no tied entrant replies correctly in time, the Prize is divided equally among all of the entrants who were tied. Each entrant who receives a share is a winner for the purposes of these rules.
5.3 The Operator will verify the winning entry before announcing the winner. Verification may include confirming eligibility (including age), confirming that the entry is correct, confirming that the winner made only one entry in this Hunt, and confirming compliance with these rules. The Operator confirms correct answers; it does not publish or reveal the solution itself. When a Hunt is won, the Operator announces the winning entry as it was submitted, attributed to the winner under clause 7.2. If no correct entry is received, the solution is not published.
5.4 The winner will be announced publicly on the official Nexus Protocol social media channels at or after the close of the Promotion on Day 7. No winner announcement will be made prior to the close of the Promotion period. The Operator is under no obligation to publish the solution to the puzzle at any time.
5.5 If no eligible correct answer is received during the Promotion period, no prize will be awarded for that Hunt. The Operator is under no obligation to award a prize if no correct answer is received. Refer also to clause 6.7.
5.6 The Operator will contact the winner by email, at the email address given with the winning entry, and only from the address set out as the Contact Email in the Hunt-Specific Details for this Hunt. The Operator does not contact winners by direct message on any social media platform, and a message on a platform saying that you have won is not from the Operator. The Operator will never ask for a password, a login code, a payment or fee of any kind, bank or card details, identity documents, gift cards, or cryptocurrency, and will never send a link asking you to log in anywhere or to claim a prize. The only details the Operator asks a winner for are the email address of their PayPal account, their country, and confirmation that they meet the eligibility requirements in Part 2. When the Prize is paid, PayPal will email the winner about the payment; that email comes from PayPal, not from the Operator, and the winner can check the payment by opening PayPal directly rather than through a link. If in doubt, write a new email to the Contact Email rather than replying to the message.
5.7 The winner must respond to the Operator's notification within 48 hours of the notification being sent, providing the information required under clause 6.1. If the winner does not respond within this period, the Operator reserves the right to disqualify that entrant and select as the winner the eligible entrant with the next correct entry under clause 5.2, or to not award the prize at the Operator's discretion.
5.8 The Operator's determination of the winner is final. No correspondence will be entered into regarding the outcome.
5.9 If this Hunt closes without a correct entry, the puzzle remains open. For as long as the Submission Page lists this Hunt, a person may submit an answer for it after the Closing Time using the Submission Page. Comments are not entries, before or after the Closing Time. Answers submitted after the Closing Time are judged under clause 4.6, and the first correct one, by receipt time, is recognised and announced in the same way as a winning entry (clauses 5.3 and 7.2). Recognition is acknowledgement only: no prize, entry into the Promotion, or other benefit attaches to an answer submitted after the Closing Time. Clause 4.3 does not apply to those answers, but the Submission Page may limit how often a person can submit one. Once an answer is recognised, the Hunt is no longer listed. Any offer of a prize for solving this puzzle after the Closing Time would be a separate Hunt, announced with its own Official Rules. The Operator does not publish the solution to a Hunt that no one has solved.
6. Prize
6.1 The prize is the amount specified as the Prize Amount in the Hunt-Specific Details for this Hunt, to be paid via PayPal (the "Prize"). To claim the Prize, the confirmed winner must provide a valid PayPal email address or account details to the Operator within the response window specified in clause 5.7.
6.2 The Prize will be transferred to the winner's PayPal account within 7 days of the Operator receiving and confirming valid PayPal payment details from the winner.
6.3 The Prize is not transferable or exchangeable. The Operator may substitute the Prize with an alternative of equal or greater value if the original Prize becomes unavailable for reasons outside the Operator's control.
6.4 The winner is solely responsible for any taxes, duties, fees, or other charges arising from receipt of the Prize in their jurisdiction. The Operator makes no representation regarding the tax treatment of the Prize.
6.5 PayPal transaction fees, if any, will be borne by the Operator where the Operator initiates the transfer. The Operator is not responsible for any fees charged by PayPal to the winner's account.
6.6 The Operator is not responsible for any failure to deliver the Prize resulting from the winner providing incorrect or invalid PayPal details, or from restrictions imposed by PayPal on the winner's account.
6.7 The Prize is only awarded if an eligible correct answer is received during the Promotion period. If no correct answer is received by the Closing Time, no prize will be awarded for that Hunt. The Operator is under no obligation to award a prize in the absence of a correct answer.
7. Intellectual Property and Content
7.1 All puzzle content, imagery, and materials forming part of this Hunt are provided by the Operator. To the extent that intellectual property rights subsist in that content, those rights are owned by the Operator or the content is used with permission. Whether or not such rights subsist in any particular item, entrants agree, as a condition of entry, not to reproduce, distribute, or commercialise any of that content without the Operator's prior written consent, except to the extent permitted by law.
7.2 By submitting an entry, entrants grant the Operator a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to reference, share, or display the winning entry, or an answer recognised under clause 5.9, as it was submitted, together with the nickname and the platform handle, if any, that the entrant gave, in announcing the results of this Hunt and in the Operator's public record of this Hunt. The Operator may decline to publish a nickname or handle that is offensive, impersonates another person, or contains contact details, and will then announce the winner without it. The Operator may also leave out of the published entry any contact details or other personal information, and any offensive material.
7.3 Part 10 sets out how the Operator handles entrants' personal information.
8. Disqualification and Fraud Prevention
8.1 The Operator reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who:
- does not meet the eligibility requirements in Part 2;
- submits a fraudulent entry, or entries in breach of clause 4.3;
- engages in dishonest or disruptive conduct in making entries or in connection with the administration of the Promotion;
- uses automated software, bots, or scripts to submit entries; or
- otherwise breaches these Official Rules.
8.2 The Operator reserves the right to cancel, suspend, or modify the Promotion if fraud, technical failures, or any other factor beyond the Operator's reasonable control corrupts the administration, security, or fairness of the Promotion.
9. Limitation of Liability
9.1 To the extent permitted by law, the Operator excludes all liability for any loss, damage, or injury suffered by any entrant or third party in connection with this Promotion, including but not limited to loss arising from participation, failure to win, or receipt of the Prize.
9.2 Nothing in these rules limits any rights that cannot be excluded under applicable Australian consumer protection law, including the Australian Consumer Law.
9.3 The Operator is not responsible for any third-party platforms (including social media platforms or PayPal) and any issues arising from their operation, unavailability, or policies.
10. Privacy
10.1 Your information. The Void Between (contact details are in the Hunt-Specific Details for this Hunt) collects your email address, your entry, and, if you give them, a nickname and a social media platform and handle, to run this Hunt under these rules: to check that each person enters once, to judge entries, and to contact you if you win or if we need to ask about your entry. We do not use your email address for anything else, we do not add you to any mailing list, and we do not sell it. If you win, we will ask for your PayPal email address and your country so we can pay the prize.
10.2 Who handles it for us. Cloudflare runs the Submission Page, its security check, and the database that stores entries, and forwards and sends our email. Google provides the email inbox in which we receive and send email. They handle your entry on our behalf and may store it outside your country. To run the security check, Cloudflare processes your IP address and technical information about your browser and connection, to tell people apart from automated software. Cloudflare may keep that information under its own policies, and also uses it to improve its security check (Cloudflare Turnstile Privacy Policy: https://www.cloudflare.com/turnstile-privacy-policy/). We do not store your IP address with your entry or in our entries database. How the website handles the IP address of every visitor is set out in our Site Terms: https://www.thevoidbetween.com/terms/#privacy.
10.3 Nickname, platform and handle. These are optional. We use them only to name the winner when we announce the result, or the person whose answer is recognised under clause 5.9, and to tag their handle on the platform they named. If you win, or your answer is recognised under clause 5.9, your nickname, the tag of your handle and your entry as you submitted it are published and stay public with the announcement. If you would rather not be identified, do not use your real name, or leave these fields blank and we will announce the result without a name.
10.4 We delete every entrant's email address, nickname, platform and handle within 30 days after the Hunt closes, or, for an answer submitted after the Hunt has closed, within 30 days after we receive it. There are three exceptions. If you have raised a question about your entry, we keep what we need until it is resolved. If you win, the record of the prize payment is kept by PayPal and in our business records for as long as tax law requires. What we publish when we announce a result stays public. After that, we keep a record of the entries and the times they were received, without email addresses, nicknames, platforms or handles, as the archive of the Hunt.
10.5 You must be 18 or over to enter. If we learn that an entrant is under 18, we delete their information. You can ask us at any time, at the Contact Email, to show you, correct, or delete your information. Deleting it before the prize is paid withdraws your entry. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you may also complain to your local data protection authority.
11. General
11.1 These Official Rules constitute the entire agreement between the Operator and each entrant in relation to this Promotion and supersede all prior representations, arrangements, or understandings.
11.2 If any provision of these rules is found to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be severed and the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
11.3 The Operator's failure to enforce any provision of these rules does not constitute a waiver of that provision.
11.4 These rules are published at the URL specified in the Hunt-Specific Details for this Hunt.
11.5 The version of these rules in effect for this Hunt was first published on the date specified as the Rules Version First Published in the Hunt-Specific Details for this Hunt.
